Uneven texture, acne scars, or dull skin? Here's where we start
Texture and tone problems aren't all alike. Acne scars are changes in the skin's structure, while dullness often reflects surface buildup, sun damage, or dehydration. A skin assessment tells us which you have, so treatment matches your skin type and your tolerance for downtime.
What might be going on
Common reasons skin looks uneven or dull include:
- Acne scars, which come in different types, such as ice-pick and rolling scars, and need different treatments
- Sun damage and smoking, which can leave skin rough, sallow, and dull
- Enlarged pores and uneven tone from oil, inflammation, and aging
- Dehydrated or irritated skin, sometimes from skincare products or medications
How we evaluate it
Your skin consultation looks closely at texture, scar type, pores, pigment, and sensitivity. We review your medications and history, including isotretinoin, pregnancy, cold sores, and how your skin heals. Active acne is usually treated first. For deeper skin tones, we choose treatments and strengths carefully to lower the risk of dark marks. Skin treatments are performed by our licensed medical aesthetician under Dr. Chander's direction.
Treatments we offer
Most patients need a series, and many do best with a combination:
- SkinPen Microneedling — an FDA-cleared device for facial acne scars in adults 22 and older, also used to refine texture and pores
- Chemical Peels — exfoliate the surface to help improve texture, tone, and dullness, with depth matched to your skin
- Medical Facials — medical-grade cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration to help skin look clearer and brighter
- PRP Facial — your own platelets, used to support skin renewal; research on PRP for skin is still limited
When to see your doctor first
Call 911 for facial or throat swelling or trouble breathing after any treatment or product. Seek care promptly for redness that spreads, warmth, pus, or fever, which can signal infection.
See a dermatologist or your doctor first for a spot that is new, changing, itching, or bleeding, or a sore that doesn't heal. Inflamed, painful acne may need prescription treatment before any procedure.

Can acne scars be removed completely?
Scars can often be improved but rarely erased. Results vary by scar type and depth, and most patients need several sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
Microneedling is usually a series of three or more sessions about four weeks apart, and scars generally need more than texture alone.
What is recovery like?
Microneedling typically causes redness like a mild sunburn for one to three days. Peels vary by depth, and daily sunscreen afterward is essential.
Let's figure out what's behind it.
