HCG therapy for men in Winter Garden, FL
Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) acts like the brain's LH signal, telling the testes to make testosterone and support sperm production. Physicians may prescribe it with testosterone therapy to help maintain testicular function and fertility, or alone for certain types of low testosterone. HCG is not a weight-loss treatment.
How HCG works
HCG mimics luteinizing hormone (LH), the signal that tells the testes to make testosterone. Testosterone therapy lowers your own LH, so the testes slow their own testosterone and sperm production. Adding HCG may help maintain testicular function. On its own, HCG can raise testosterone and restore sperm production in men whose low testosterone comes from low LH signals.
Who it's for
The American Urological Association says clinicians may use HCG in men with low testosterone who want to maintain fertility. The recommendation is conditional and based on limited evidence. We consider HCG for:
- Men on testosterone therapy who want to maintain testicular function and fertility
- Men whose low testosterone comes from low LH signals and who want to keep fertility options open
What your visit involves
- A review of your symptoms, goals, and fertility plans
- Blood tests such as testosterone, LH, FSH, estradiol, hematocrit, and PSA
- Teaching on giving the small injections yourself, typically a few times a week, plus follow-up labs
What to expect and safety
Reported side effects include headache, irritability, restlessness, depression, fatigue, swelling, breast enlargement, and pain at the injection site. We monitor estrogen levels and symptoms because breast changes are a known side effect. HCG is not appropriate for men with prostate cancer or other androgen-dependent tumors, or anyone who has had an allergic reaction to it. Testosterone therapy is not recommended for men currently trying to conceive. Results vary.
Good to know
FDA-approved HCG injections are approved for three uses. These are undescended testicles in boys before puberty (when not caused by a blockage), selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, and ovulation induction in women. Using HCG with testosterone therapy, or to preserve fertility in other men, is off-label, which means less is known about its risks and benefits.
Since March 2020, HCG has been regulated as a biologic, and the FDA states that biologics cannot be compounded, so HCG prescriptions are filled with FDA-licensed HCG products rather than compounded versions.
HCG is not approved for weight loss. The FDA says there is no substantial evidence that it works for weight loss. It has received reports of serious harm, including pulmonary embolism and death, with HCG injections for weight loss.
HCG Therapy for Men FAQ
Is this the same as the "HCG diet"?
No. The FDA says HCG is not approved for weight loss. Our HCG therapy is for men's hormone health, under physician supervision.
Do I need HCG if I take testosterone?
Not everyone does. It is most useful if protecting testicular function or fertility matters to you. We review the benefits, risks, and alternatives, including enclomiphene.
Will HCG restore my fertility after testosterone therapy?
It may help sperm production recover, but recovery varies, can take months, and is not certain. If you want to conceive, we build a fertility-focused plan rather than continuing testosterone alone.
How is HCG given?
As small injections, typically a few times a week. We teach you to give them and adjust your dose with follow-up labs.
